Conus hassani (Abbass, 1977)

 

 

 

description of HOLOTYPE (G590): Shell small, biconical; spire low, wide, conical, consists of four whorls; whorl outline with anterior convexity; suture linear, super­ficial; surface almost smooth except for growth lines; body whorl constitutes greater part of shell, showing posterior concave shoulder with rounded edge below which whorl becomes more convex, then contracted into long concave beak; whorl shows growth threads posteriorly, crossed by fourteen or more spiral cords increasing in width posteriorly with narrower interspaces covering whorl anterior third; aperture long, high, narrow; outer lip shows posterior concavity on shoulder, followed by anterior protrusion then becomes straight and curved around anterior part; inner lip smooth.

ge, formation and locality : Helvetian, Upper Sadat Member, Ramlyia.

 

discussion: Phasmaconus martini nom. nov. Shuto (1969, PI. 22, Figs 7, 10) differs from the present species as it has a higher, less inflated shell with a proportionately lower spire.
